The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

Teaching watercolor landscapes to my 5th grade students, I, also, do one with the classes. Along the way, I will show certain techniques or explain specific problems with the painting as it was being created. This is my interpretation of a photo taken by Tommy White that was printed in the Our State magazine.

The A-frame LoungeThe object of this painting is the A-frame Lounge the subject is a dreamlike state focusing on atmosphere and mood. I aimed to create a warm yet solemn tone, reflecting a memory from my youth over 31 years ago. Back then, I worked at Allen Lewis Manufacturing in North Denver with a friend who was an airbrush artist. On weekends, we?d head to the Mile High Flea Market, where he airbrushed t-shirts, and I handled the money. As the day wound down, we?d celebrate with Budweiser,

My name is Michelle Pettit, and I am a retired Texas educator with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas State University. My husband and I split our time between Austin, Texas, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to spend time with family. The featured fall watercolor, Dancing Leaves, is one of four commissioned seasonal watercolors completed for a local Winston-Salem business as a note card gift set for clients. I was asked to design one watercolor scene to represent each season. My ins

I love painting landscapes because the process is more than just creating art. It?s a way to immerse myself in another world. After painting a portion, I place it in front of me and spend hours staring at it while eating, relaxing, working, or even before going to bed. I get so lost in the scene that the boundary between reality and fantasy fades away. For me, this practice becomes an escape from the hustle and bustle of life, offering a peaceful retreat into the beauty of imagination and nature
